山墙 Gable

山墙是建筑两个侧面上部成山尖形的横墙，也称作规壁、鹅头、栋头、圆仔头、归壁、大规壁，而「规」字是指弧形的曲线。此外日本史学家藤岛亥治郎在其《**の建筑》一书中将这种结构称为马背，有可能是「马脊」之误。另有一说，认为马背是在山墙顶端鼓起的部分。一般而言，东亚传统建筑都有山墙，它的作用主要是与邻居的住宅隔开和防火。在中国长江一带，常有阶梯状的封火山墙，又称「马头墙」，其高度高过了屋瓦。
