非决定论(indeterminism)泛指与决定论相对立的观点，用来解释人类行为的原因。支持此理论的心理学家认为人在各种情境下所展现的各种行为，并非单纯由物质或精神等因素所支配之结果，主要是出自于人所俱有的自由意志(free will)所做之自由选择，因此每个人的行为皆有很大的差异。换言之，同样情境，不同的人会有不同的行为，此为人之异于某些动物的原因，例如昆虫就是典型的例子，刺激与反应，其行为不需经由思考，在相同的情境下不会做出不同的行为。

然而自从之后自然科学盛行，加上函数方程序能完美地解释及预测一些自然现象，曾经使学界过度倾向机械论的世界观。因此非决定论在二十世纪初期行为主义盛行时，遭到心理学家的忽视，直到二十世纪后期，随着量子力学的发展，其不确定性使研究学者渐渐接受函数方程序的自然现象仅能说明普遍的情形，非决定论的观点才再度受到心理学家的重视。

Indeterminism is the concept that events (certain events, or events of certain types) are not caused, or not caused deterministically (cf. causality) by prior events. It is the opposite of determinism and related to chance. It is highly relevant to the philosophical problem of free will, particularly in the form of metaphysical libertarianism.
