Antipsychotic

Antipsychotics are a class of psychiatric medication primarily used to manage psychosis (including delusions, hallucinations, paranoia or disordered thought), principally for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and are increasingly being used in the management of non-psychotic disorders (ATC code N05A). The terms neuroleptic and major tranquilizer, used for older antipsychotic drugs, have been dropped from contemporary use. Neuroleptic, which originates from the Greek word νεῦρον neuron ("nerve") and λῆψις lepsis ("seizure" or "fit"), was a reference to neurological side effects.
