大同盟战争又称九年战争是一场发生于1688年至1697年法王路易十四在位时的第三场重要战争（前两场分别为权力转移战争与法荷战争），这场战争是因为路易十四欲在欧洲作出大规模的扩张，因此遭到荷兰、神圣罗马帝国哈布斯堡王朝和英国、西班牙等组成大同盟联合对抗。战争的结果是各国被逼言和，但法国仍是欧洲最强的霸权，路易十四对西班牙帝国的野心，促成了数年后更大规模的西班牙王位继承战争，法国为讨好西班牙而归还土地，促成最后对西班牙王位的占领，只保留了西班牙国土的名义但实质已被法国占有。

The Nine Years' War (1688–97) – often called the War of the Grand Alliance or the War of the League of Augsburg – was a major war of the late 17th century fought between King Louis XIV of France, and a European-wide coalition, the Grand Alliance, led by the Anglo-Dutch Stadtholder-King William III, Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I, King Charles II of Spain, Victor Amadeus II of Savoy, and the major and minor princes of the Holy Roman Empire. The Nine Years' War was fought primarily on mainland Europe and its surrounding waters, but it also encompassed a theatre in Ireland and in Scotland, where William III and James II struggled for control of the British Isles, and a campaign in colonial North America between French and English settlers and their respective Indian allies, called “King William’s War” by the English colonists.
