A pyrometer from 1852. Heating the metal bar (a) presses against a lever (b), which presses against another lever (c) that serves as a measuring index. (e) is an immovable prop which holds the bar in place. A spring on (c) pushes against (b), causing the index to fall back once the bar cools.

红外线温度计，是一种利用侦测物体表面的红外线量进而达成温度测量的温度计。因为红外线量越大说明温度越高，所以可以使用红外线测量温度，测量范围一般在400 ℃以内，最高可达3000℃，测量误差在 1～3% 之间。

红外线温度计通常备有激光，帮助用户确定测量区域。

A pyrometer is a type of remote-sensing thermometer used to measure the temperature of a surface. Various forms of pyrometers have historically existed. In the modern usage, it is a device that from a distance determines the temperature of a surface from the spectrum of the thermal radiation it emits, a process known as pyrometry and sometimes radiometry.
