雪线指冰川、雪山冰雪累积和融化平衡之处，亦即永久性积雪的下限，以海拔高度表示。“雪线”的海拔高度依照所处位置的不同而高度不同。通常是指高山的某一个常年积雪的高度，因在山下向山上远眺之时，常看到积雪的雪在线下分明，故有雪线之称。

不同地方雪线高度也不一样；影响雪线高度的因素有温度、降水量、坡向。高纬度地区的南极和北极地区的冰川多位于海面上，雪线海拔高度为零，非洲乞力马扎罗雪山雪线最高约为5000米，喜马拉雅山脉南坡雪线大体为海拔4500～5000米，北坡5500～6000米，其中东绒布冰川雪线最高达到海拔6200米，为已知世界雪线海拔最高之地。
