单词 Population standard deviation
释义

Population standard deviation

And then the population standard deviation.

The population standard deviation assuming our null hypothesis.

And we always have to put a little confidence there, because remember, we didn't actually know the population standard deviations, or the population variances.

If you will have more than 30 samples, if your sample size is more than 30, your sample standard deviation is going to be a good approximator for your population standard deviation.

So the standard deviation of our sampling distribution is going to be-- and we'll put a little hat over it to show that we approximated it with-- we approximated the population standard deviation with the sample standard deviation.

Standard deviation

A plot of a normal distribution (or bell-shaped curve) where each band has a width of 1 standard deviation – See also: 68–95–99.7 rule
Cumulative probability of a normal distribution with expected value 0 and standard deviation 1.
Geometric visualisation of the variance of the example distribution:A frequency distribution is constructed. The centroid of the distribution gives its mean.A square with sides equal to the difference of each value from the mean is formed for each value.Arranging the squares into a rectangle with one side equal to the number of values, n, results in the other side being the distribution's variance, σ².
Example of samples from two populations with the same mean but different standard deviations. Red population has mean 100 and SD 10; blue population has mean 100 and SD 50.

In statistics, the standard deviation (SD, also represented by the Greek letter sigma σ or s) is a measure that is used to quantify the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of data values. A low standard deviation indicates that the data points tend to be close to the mean (also called the expected value) of the set, while a high standard deviation indicates that the data points are spread out over a wider range of values.
