原生动物 Protozoa

原生动物是原生生物当中较接近动物的一类，简称原虫。由单细胞所组成，异养生活，能够运动。但是有些物种介于植物和动物之间，如眼虫，因为它们能进行光合作用；它们又能运动，并像真正的动物那样进食。动物中排除原生动物，剩下的多细胞动物被称为后生动物。后生动物中有了组织分化的被称为真后生动物。

原虫很微小，一般只能通过显微镜才能看到。但在马里亚纳海沟发现的一类有孔虫门原虫Xenophyophores，直径可以达到20厘米，为最大的原生动物。经记录的原生动物约有50000种，其中大约有20000种为化石种。

按照支序分类学说的观点，原生动物是真核生物除去多细胞动物、植物、真菌之外的部分，为并系群，且区分动植物的标准——运动和光合作用均与生物演化分类无关。光合作用并非真核生物的原始属性，而是分别通过一次或多次内共生来实现的，各个营光合作用的种类彼此间并无亲缘关系。因此原生动物只是一个集合概念，而不应作为生物分类的单元。原生动物现在被更准确地划分在一个单独的界：原生生物界
