善本（Rare book）是一种关于古籍、手稿、文献等纸质出版物的概念。在书稿流传中，常常会出现多种不同的版本；而其中经过仔细的校勘、抄写、印刷等修缮所得到的珍贵、优秀的版本，即称为“善本”，有比较高的收藏、流传的价值。经名家校正的善本，更是读书人、藏书家争相搜购的珍品。有些学者更会记下校雠经过，撰成「校勘记」，附于定本末后，是后世治学考证的重要参考数据。
善本的书籍，又称作“善本书”。
清代张之洞在《轩语》（清光绪元年，1875年）中说:“善本非纸白版新之谓，谓其为前辈通人用古刻数本精校细勘不讹不缺之本也。此有一简易之法，初学购书，但看序跋是本朝校刻，卷尾附有校勘记而密行细字、写刻精工者即佳。善本之义有三:一足本(无缺卷、未删削)，二精本(一精校、一精注)、三旧本(一旧刻、一旧抄)”。
