橄榄球类运动，亦称橄榄足球或直接音译为拉格比足球（Rugby Football），其英语原义仅指由英格兰拉格比学校直接发展出来的橄榄球（又称联合式橄榄球，Rugby Union）与其直接分支－联盟式橄榄球（Rugby League）两种运动的合称。这两种都是十九世纪盛行于英国公学的球类运动。

但在华文世界里，由于改以球的外形命名，有时候会将美式足球、加拿大式足球、澳式足球等各种使用橄榄形球，但英文名称已不含「拉格比（Rugby）」一词的衍生运动纳入，因而该名词俨然变成所有使用橄榄形球运动之「中文统称」。

Rugby football is a type of football developed at Rugby School in Rugby, Warwickshire, one of many versions of football played at English public schools in the 19th century. The two main types of rugby are rugby league and rugby union. Although rugby league initially used rugby union rules, they are now wholly separate sports.
