临床上颜面麻痹（歪斜）可简单分为：周边型及中枢型，周边型颜面神经麻痹中，最常见就是贝尔氏麻痹（Bell's palsy），俗称「鬼吹风」，绝大多数的颜面神经麻痹都属于良性疾病，恢复时间有时需长达六到八周，早期使用类固醇可以有效降低颜面神经的发炎。

It emerges from the brainstem between the pons and the medulla, controls the muscles of facial expression, and functions in the conveyance of taste sensations from the anterior two-thirds of the tongue and oral cavity. It also supplies preganglionic parasympathetic fibers to several head and neck ganglia.
