立定跳高是一项传统的田径比赛项目，在1900年—1912年曾是奥运会的比赛项目之一。要求运动员不使用助跑，原地起跳。
目前世界最好成绩由瑞典人鲁内·阿尔文（Rune Almé）在1974年创造的1.80米。 后来他又跳出了1.90米。
