金鱼藻属（学名：Ceratophyllum）自成一目、一科、一属，是一类分布在全世界范围内的水生植物。一般生活在温带和热带的池塘、沼泽和平静的溪流中。

金鱼藻科植物全株都在水面以下生存，茎长可达一米以上，轮生着绿色的线状叶，没有根，但有时生出类似根的变种叶，把茎固定到水底，花单性，很小，雌花与雄花生长在同株上，喜光，在缺光环境也能生存，但生长缓慢。在低温环境下也生长缓慢，叶变粗，很容易被误认为是另一个品种。在秋季会产生瘦果，沉入池底，春季重新发芽生长。在热带可以长年生长，形成茂密的“森林”，为鱼苗提供庇护所。

Ceratophyllum is a cosmopolitan genus of flowering plants, commonly found in ponds, marshes, and quiet streams in tropical and in temperate regions. They are usually called coontails or hornworts, although hornwort is also used for unrelated plants of the division Anthocerotophyta.
