鸠鸽科（学名：Columbidae）在鸟类传统分类系统中是鸟纲鸽形目中的一个科，一般称为鸠或者鸽。有许多种类，其中有40属，其下共有大约320个品种。常常被称呼为白鸽或鸽子的正式名称是原鸽。

特征是酒樽身形，脖子短小，有瘦长的嘴，牠喝水的时候，将嘴至鼻孔的范围浸入水中吸吮，雄性和雌性从外表看不太出来，只是雄性在身材方面显得有力，在行为及表情上显的较为主动。鸽子的肌肉有益于在空中移动，他们有强健的胸骨保护心、肺脏，里的骨头是空心的，牠们会吃许多小石头帮助消化，他们有大约一万根羽毛，体型轻巧，最快可以大约每小时一百公里的速度飞行。鸽子以如玉米、白米、花生、豆子等种子、果实和其他柔软的植物维生，属于食果动物，牠们并不挑食，也可以吃饲料。喜爱用幼小树枝筑巢。每次生蛋两只，由父母轮流孵化。
